| Diakonia,
taken from the Greek word for servant, is a two-year course of study
for the laity who want to prepare for leadership positions in the
church. The classes, taught by theology professors and experts in
specific fields of study, cover the Scriptures, early church history,
Martin Luther’s life and writings, music and worship and service.
Holy Cross is one of many churches in several states
that hosts these once-a-week classes that run from September to
June. Our graduates serve at the altar, teach Sunday School and
catechetics, bring communion to the homebound and hold leadership
positions within the church and synod.
